Balance and Heal the Seventh Chakra

Seventh Chakra - Sahasrara

Sahasrara is a Sanskrit word means 'thousand;' lotus flower with thousand petals. However, it implies vast (in fact, unlimited) magnitude and significance; more aptly describe as a lotus with an infinite number of petals. Sahasrara chakra symbolizes obtaining supra-mental consciousness of the truth that one is all, and all is one. This is the seventh chakra located at the crown of the head, thus also called as Crown chakra. Sahasrara is the most sublime chakra of pure consciousness. This chakra brings us knowledge, wisdom, understanding, spiritual connection, and bliss. It is a powerful chakra considered as the seat of the intuition and higher knowledge; depicted as a halo in paintings over the heads of saints and the like.

Sahasrara is both formless and with form; it is nothing and everything at the same time by merging of consciousness and Prana. It is shoonya, or in fact, the void of totality.

When kundalini Shakti reaches Sahasrara, begins the union of Shiva and Shakti, a great experience of intoxicating bliss and self-realization called samadhi dawns. This indicates the individual dies to this world; it does not mean the physical body dies rather means the mundane awareness or individual awareness (self-consciousness dies, and universal consciousness is born). You have lost all identity, and now you merge with ‘All That Is’. Once attained, the Yogi gains supreme knowledge and passes beyond life and death. This union is referring to as Samadhi; the seer seeing and seen are merged as a unified whole. There is only single awareness; no multiple or dual awareness.

From Sahasrara, the nectar of immortality (Amrita) flows in a constant stream. Sahasrara chakra is located above Brahma-randhra ("the cave of Brahma"), a hole in the crown of the head through which the soul escapes at death. Yogi’s practice Kapala Moksha by separating him from the physical body at the time of death, Brahma-randhra burst open and the soul leaves through this. This opening is called the ‘Door to Pure Consciousness’ or door of liberation.

Location for Sahasrara chakra is four finger-breadths above the crown of the head (the “soft spot” as an infant). Sahasrara chakra is the upper terminal point of Sushumna nadi.

Color: Violet or White
Mantra: Silence
Sense: Empathy and unity
Affirmations: I know. I understand.
Element: Beyond element or all five elements; often consider as Cosmic Energy experienced as an inner light emanating from the deepest part of our being. This stems from the Source, feels like an ultimate intelligence and a sense of all knowing.
Balanced Sahasrara chakra manifests self-realization, bright, radiate, rebirth, total selflessness, divine love, charming, and charismatic. One's sense of love is magnifying to the degree everyone feels it, and sees everything as one.
Unbalanced Sahasrara chakra leads out of touch with our own spirit, inappropriate self-control, indecisive, self-centeredness, and spiritual poverty. Other problems are mystical depression, feel-emptiness, laziness, migraine headache, diseases of muscular, skeletal and the skin, chronic exhaustion without any physical ailments, and sensitivity to light, sound, environment. The person will have no boundaries, no rules, and will be in a constant state of chaos regarding themselves and others. There is a sense of instability, unreliability, fear, and insecurity.
Crystals: Clear Quartz, Howlite, and Amethyst.
Essential Oils: Lotus, Rose Damascena and frankincense.
Mudra for the Crown Chakra is Uttarabodhi Mudra; Uttara means "realization," and bodhi means "enlightenment." This mudra symbolizes the experience of non-separateness, described in the Yoga Sutra as samadhi. Index fingers touch one another and are extended, pointing toward the skies. Remaining fingers are crossed and folded down. Thumbs are cross or held next to each other. Clasped hands are held over the head. The Uttarabodhi Mudra can perform at any time or place, for as long as you want. You can use it when you are feeling a lack of physical or mental energy, when you want to relax, when you need an innovative idea or a flash of inspiration.
Reflexology for Sahasrara chakra: if you are feeling lack of physical or mental energy, want to relax, need an innovative idea or a flash of inspiration. You can rebalance it by stimulating reflex point of the pituitary gland. In the feet, it is in the big toe, just above the bump parallel to the base of the nail. Similarly, in the hand, it is slightly above the thumb center parallel to the base of the nail as shown in the picture. Massage these points by gently kneading with your thumbs for about 30-seconds (or slowly count up to 30).  It is even better to massage the whole thumb, the reflex point of the entire brain.
