Balance and Heal the First Chakra

The First Chakra is the foundation of the system. It relates to the Earth element and all solid Earth things. This chakra is involved with our bodies, our health and survival (both primal and material existence). It relates to our ability to project, focus, and manifest our worldly, Earthly needs.
Location: The base or root of the spine between the genitals and the anus. It is just below the junction where Ida, Pingala and Sushumna Nadis meet. In male, its location is in the perineum, midway between the anus and penis. In the female, its location is near the cervix, where the vagina meets the uterus.
Color: Red
Animal: Elephant (may imagine yourself seated on this animal and exercising the qualities that they represent.)
Shape: Square
Sense: Smell
When Unbalanced: Isolation, abandonment, feel do not belong, feel unsafe, cannot trust others or the universe, insecure, afraid, fear, worry, greed, past-oriented, escapism, little feeling of body, ungrounded, restless, not heard, not noticed, difficulty manifesting, scarcity, need to control, resigned or hooked on hope, romance the stone (go after emotionally unavailable lovers), the victim. Family history environment of not there, irrelevant, actively destructive, isolation. Overachiever, rugged and ragged individualist, justified greed, prove it to me attitude, past and externally directed, learn from hard knocks, love and intimacy avoidant, low sense of self-worth, desperate seekers, addiction.
When Balanced: Belonging, feel at home on Earth, connected, safe, accepted, trust, can relax, feel calm, serene and peaceful, have patience, acceptance, live in present, honor and take care of body, grounded, sensual awareness, energy distributed through whole body- less energy in head and upper body so shoulders can relax. Heard when speak, presence is noticed and appreciated, actions bear fruit, able to manifest. Abundance, no desire to control, realistic, courageous and willing to take risk, able to surrender, desire and ability to bond with others, aware of self-worth, every experience is a lesson we can learn from.

Soul Lesson: Living in the present
Goals: To activate your feeling consciousness. When your really FEEL you can tune into and experience your body. You are no longer in your mind and thinking. As your feeling awareness opens up and you are able to maintain it, you begin to relax. As you learn to keep energy in your lower body, the concentration of energy and stress in your head and shoulders is released.
Practices: Squats, Spinal Grind, Body Drops, Spinal Flex
Sound: “Lam” (लँ ) How do you pronounce the mantra: The bija mantra (seed sound) for this chakra is pronouncing as LANG by placing the tongue behind the upper teeth. Pronounce LA & NG roughly of equal duration of the 5 to 15 sounds based on your lung capacity. Make NG sound with a nasal intonation creating a resonant humming sound halfway between an ‘M’ and ‘N’. Imagine the mantra is emanating from within the root chakra. Chant the mantra rhythmically several times while exhaling. As you inhale, continue to chant the mantra mentally (without sounding).
Essential Oils: Patchouli, Neroli and sandalwood, cinnamon, clove and ginger.
Mudra for Muladhara Chakra: Chin Mudra. Both hand's thumb and index finger should join to make zero, other fingers extended straight.
